Every long-running community has moments when the first signs of tension appear.

Usually they do not arrive as dramatic events.
They begin as conversations.
A disagreement.

Before the later conflicts surrounding Cutting Through the Matrix, there was an earlier moment that would become significant in hindsight: the split between Alan Watt and Jackie Patru.

It is often much harder when the disagreement concerns the person at the centre of the community itself.





Looking Back

At the time, few people could have known the significance this moment would later acquire.

There was no way to see the future.
No one knew how CTTM would evolve, how many people would become involved, or how complicated the later history would become.
But in retrospect, the Jackie Patru episode stands as an early marker.
A moment when questions appeared.
